Affordable home ownership is key for low-income families to find a path out of poverty. A family’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity Lincoln means they have a stable place to live and spend time together. An affordable mortgage or small loan means they have a chance to create savings and invest in their education and future retirement. A decent roof over their heads establishes home as a place that protects – instead of endangers – their health and wellbeing. The Lincoln Rotary Club #14 would like to invite you to participate in our annual Rise.Shine.Give. fundraising event on Saturday, February 12, 2022. Fifty percent of the event proceeds will aid in providing materials (lumber, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC) for Habitat Lincoln to build an affordable, quality home for a local family. The remaining proceeds will help us increase future giving capacity to benefit the numerous community service organizations who apply for funds from our Lincoln Rotary Club #14 Foundation. Past recipients include the Gathering Place, Everett Elementary School, South of Downtown Neighborhood, Tabitha, Child Advocacy Center, Voices of Hope, Junior Achievement, and the Malone Center – to name just a few. We are excited to welcome you back to an in-person event at Nebraska Innovation Campus. You and your guests will enjoy a delicious brunch, bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary’s, silent auction, raffle, and much more. How can you participate in Rise.Shine.Give. and support Habitat for Humanity Lincoln and the Rotary Club #14 Foundation?
We know you have countless choices to support the organizations doing great things in our community. Thank you for your commitment to Habitat for Humanity and Rotary 14! Event details:

This meeting will be in a hybrid format. NO RSVP Required. Lunch price: $16. Lunch includes a buffet with an entree, garden salad with dressing, seasonal vegetables, starch, roll, coffee/tea/water. Meeting only: $0 Every day, nearly a billion people in the world are food-insecure, without enough safe and nutritious food to lead healthy and active lives. Many of them are also water-insecure, without reliable access to an adequate amount of clean water to meet their needs. By 2050, our global food demand will double to meet the needs of nearly 10 billion people. To ensure sustainable food and water security in the face of population and income increases, a changing climate, and the growing demand for scarce water resources, it is imperative to improve water management in agricultural and food systems. Nebraska has one of the most progressive and prosperous agricultural industries in the world thanks to plentiful natural resources, the ingenuity and hard work of our farmers and the research leadership of the University of Nebraska. In 2010, the Robert B. Daugherty Foundation selected NU to harness this well-rounded combination for a new institute focused on ensuring water and food security for our growing world. The Robert B. Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute (DWFI) was founded to leverage the university’s expertise and extend it with strong state, national and international partnerships. |

20 mile route on bike trails, with a 10 mile option $3500 fundraising goal, $200 minimum per rider through pledges or self-donation. Additionally, 14 and South will have a friendly competition to see who can raise more per rider. President Christina has set a goal of $3500 to fund our Polio efforts, and together we can surpass that goal! To do that, we are looking for 18 Riders, each with a fundraising goal of $200. We already have four signed up: Me, President Christina, Clay Ehlers, and Mark Stephens. I know some people HATE asking for donations, so you are welcome to write a $200 check and call it a day. But think about it this way: if you're riding the 10 mile route, ask 10 friends to sponsor you at $2 a mile. That's a $20 pledge, times 10 = goal! Social media works great for this too. While we can't accept online donations, cash or check can be collected and turned into Yolanda.

State of Nebraska
Jul 12, 2022
Governor Pete Ricketts was sworn in as Nebraska’s 40th Governor on January 8, 2015 and reelected to a second term in November 2018. Over the past seven years, Governor Ricketts has worked with the Legislature to deliver $3 billion in direct property tax relief, dramatically reduce the rate of state spending growth, develop Nebraska's workforce, improve operations, cut red tape, and expand international markets for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers. Thanks in part to the Governor’s leadership, Nebraska won the Governor’s Cup for the most economic development projects per capita three years in a row from 2016 to 2018. Born in Nebraska City and raised in Omaha, Ricketts is the son of an entrepreneur and a school teacher. Governor Ricketts and his wife, First Lady Susanne Shore, have been married for 24 years and live in Omaha. They have three children: Roscoe, Margot, and Eleanor. Ricketts graduated from Westside High School before attending the University of Chicago where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology and an MBA in marketing and finance. After graduate school, Ricketts returned to Omaha and worked for Union Pacific before eventually becoming the President and COO of his family's business, Ameritrade. Prior to his election as governor, he worked to support Nebraska entrepreneurs and startup companies. Ricketts is the founder of Drakon, LLC that supports local entrepreneurs and startup companies. He is also a past board member of TD Ameritrade’s Board of Directors and the Chicago Cubs baseball team. Governor Ricketts has taken on leadership roles in local and state associations and organizations. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of Jobs for America's Graduates, as a director of the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation, as a member of the Board of Advisors of Opportunity Education Foundation, on the board of the Mid-American Council of the Boy Scouts, as a member of the Archbishop’s Committee for Development, as a member of the Knights of Columbus, and as a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre. Lincoln City Libraries
Jul 19, 2022
Most passionate reader. That’s how Lincoln City Libraries Director Pat Leach wants to be known. Others see her as much more: committed, consistent, anticipatory, and passionate about serving the community and promoting literacy. As library director, Leach heads up Bennett Martin Public Library, its seven branches, and 150 staff members. She was appointed to the role in 2008. Retired assistant library director John Dale worked with Leach from the time she was a part-time youth services library aid in 1979 until his retirement in 2005, and even officiated at her wedding. During his initial encounter, Pat’s gigantic smile and congeniality struck him. He recalled when she took a year off in the late ‘80s to get her master’s degree in library and information science at the University of Illinois. “My feeling was always that she would go as far as she wanted to go,” Dale said. Over the years he found her to be really, really smart, he shared. “She can come into a situation, and she clicks immediately. She’s good at reading the room.” |
