Speaker Information: Lieutenant Matthew McCarter, The Salvation Army
Lieutenant Matthew McCarter was appointed to the leadership team of The Salvation Army in Lincoln and Lancaster County in July 2025. Joining his wife, Major Kelsie Moreno-McCarter, Matt has been a member of The Salvation Army for his entire life. Growing up in Topeka, Kansas and working for The Salvation Army in Kansas City, Missouri in various departments for 16 years, Matt knows first-hand the impact The Salvation Army can have in a community, having found his calling into ministry during a Salvation Army summer music camp. He has a passion for cultivating meaningful community relationships and working alongside the great organizations that help Lincoln thrive.
President Randy Hawthorne has invited Rotary 14 Club Members to join him for fun and fellowship at "Wine Down Wednesday." Randy will be at Bin105 from 5-6:30 on Wednesday, December 17 and he is ready and eager to meet other Rotarians to discuss club business or share in your personal lives.
Since 1988, Lincoln Rotary Club 14 has been honoring Nebraskans who have distinguished themselves through service to others in keeping with ideals of Rotary International. These Nebraskans have shown honesty, integrity, and concern for others through leadership and significant contributions to their profession and their communities. This award is open to ALL Nebraskans except elected officials, currently in office. Nominees do NOT have to be a Rotarian.
The Lincoln Rotary Club 14 would like to invite you to participate in our annual Rise.Shine.Give. fundraising event on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Fifty percent of the event proceeds will go to The HUB Lincoln. The remaining proceeds will help us increase future giving capacity to benefit the numerous community service organizations who apply for funds from our Lincoln Rotary Club 14 Foundation.

Abbie Heusinger, Apex Projects
Abbie Heusinger is the owner and founder of Apex Projects, a Lincoln-based construction company known for its modern design and quality craftsmanship. She leads a talented six-person team that brings creativity, experience, and attention to detail to every project. With over a decade of industry experience, Abbie is passionate about building spaces that bring people together and strengthening the Lincoln community through service, collaboration, and leadership.
Dillon Miller, Cornhusker Bank (Corporate Partner)
Dillon was born in the heart of Nebraska, raised in the panhandle and made the Southeast his home. Dillon left his small hometown for Lincoln in 2011 with a high school diploma & 900 US dollars and joined the workforce. He worked odd job after odd job for 2 years before landing a "floating teller" gig at his bank in 2013. He worked his way up through the retail ranks, first at Great Western Bank, then at Cornhusker, to Portfolio Mortgage in 2020. He met his wife, Paula, in 2015. They got married in 2018 and started their family in 2021. They have two boys, ages 4 and 9 months.
Brock Shelton, Westgate Bank
Brock has been married to his wife, Emily, for 11 years. She owns Legacy Curbing LLC in Lincoln, Nebraska. They have built a life centered on family and community. Brock grew up on a small farm in northeast Nebraska, raised by a pastor father and teacher mother, alongside two older brothers. Emily and Brock are raising two boys, Reid (10) and Roman (8). Brock has 27 years in banking, including 23 at West Gate Bank, where he focuses on building trusted relationships with business owners. He is customer-service driven, values clear communication, and enjoys real estate projects.
Laurie Sukup, AKRS Equipment Solutions, Inc.
Laurie was born and raised in Ogallala, Nebraska, in a family of nine children. As the daughter of an immigrant raised in poverty and war-torn conditions, she learned early the importance of giving back. Laurie is a UNL alum and works as a Senior Financial Accountant at AKRS Equipment Solutions, with prior roles at Mattson Ricketts Law Firm, Smart Chicken, Kawasaki, and Consolidated Container Company. She and her husband Randy have lived in Lincoln 20+ years and have three children. She enjoys home projects, her kids’ sports, reading, movies, crafting, baking, and visiting Lake McConaughey.
At the December 9 meeting, The Gathering Place was presented with a $5,000 Community Grant from the Rotary 14 Foundation. Thank you to all those who support our local foundation. Your donations are making an impact on our community!
If you were at President Randy Hawthorne's inaugural meeting, you heard that he's inviting each member of the club to the President's Table. These have been assigned randomly. Here are the upcoming dates:
ClubRunner released a major update. The update makes the system more user/member friendly. ClubRunner will be asking that every club switch to the new system in 2026. However, we are proud to say Rotary 14 is always on the move and busy, so while we're in a rare time of low activity for the Club (but not the Foundation - support Rise.Shine.Give 2026!), we are looking to expedite the update. At some point in the near future, Rotary 14 will make the switch. Please notify Club Administrator Lauren Peters (info@rotary14.org) if you have any trouble with the new system or have any questions or concerns as we make the switch. We're excited about the possibilities in store that make our club information more accessible to our members with this update.
