This Week's Program (April 29): Ryan Sothan, NE Attorney General's Office
Topic: Protect the Good Life: The 2025 Nebraska Scams and Anti-Fraud Education (SAFE) Update

Fraud and financial scams continue to threaten Nebraskans, often causing not just monetary loss but also emotional and even physical harm—especially among older residents. Unfortunately, studies show that the true extent of fraud is far greater than what is reported, making awareness and prevention more critical than ever.

The 2025 SAFE Update empowers Nebraskans with the latest tools and strategies to recognize, prevent, and respond to scams. This session will highlight common fraud tactics, key warning signs, and practical steps to safeguard yourself and those around you.

The best defense? Trust your instincts. If something seems too good to be true—it probably is.

Wine Down Wednesday: This Wednesday!

President Erin Dobesh has invited Rotary 14 Club Members to join her for fun and fellowship at "Wine Down Wednesday."  Erin will be at Bin105 from 5-6:30 on Wednesday, April 30. She will be ready and eager to meet other Rotarians to discuss club business or share in your personal lives.
Guess the Pooch's Percentage | RI Fundraiser
Past-President Christina Usher would like to invite you to participate in a fun little fundraiser for Rotary International. Donate $20, guess the breeds of her dog by percentage. The guess that gets closest to his actual DNA report from Embark wins bragging rights and a prize. All proceeds to go Rotary International -- you get to pick the particular fund: Polio, Disaster Relief, or the World Fund. The big reveal will be on Tuesday, May 6th at our regular meeting.

Here are the details
  • BIO.  Christina has a rescue puppy who is about 15 months old. His name is Philly. He was found in a ditch in Texas with his brother, who is all black. Philly is cream colored with caramel-brown highlights on his ears, eye lashes, and subtle spots on his torso. He loves the water, and likes to chase squirrels and birds. He occasionally stalks and points. He likes to talk, whine and howl.  He has a very friendly demeanor; loves all dogs and people. He runs as fast or faster as many of the dogs at the dog park. He loves to sleep not just next to you, but on you. He has short hair but sheds a lot. He has long legs and is skinny. He has lots of energy!
  • Pictures.  As they say, pictures are worth a 1000 words. A picture is attached, and you can find more pictures here: CLICK HERE
  • Guess.  He is your classic Heinz57 mutt. Can you guess which mix of breeds he is? Your guess should list the mix of breeds you suspect, a percent for each breed so it totals 100%. (percentages are to break a tie). You may submit more than one guess.
    • Fill out the google form here: CLICK HERE
    • Or Email Christina your guess (clu@mattsonricketts.com)
    • Guesses must be submitted NO LATER THAN MAY 2nd.
  • Pay.  Each guess costs $20. Let me know which of the funds you wish to support: Polio Plus, Disaster Relief, or the World Fund. You can pay by:
    • cash (hand to Christina at a meeting)
    • check made payable to "Rotary International"
    • Venmo @Christina-Usher-1
    • or make a direct donation to RI (but you'll have to tell Christina you paid RI since their reports mask donor names).
Our goal is $1,000 -- let's blow it out of the water! Questions? Ask Christina!
