June 20 Rotary Speaker Marc Shkolnick

MARC SHKOLNICK

Marc Shkolnick has served as Manager of Energy Services for Lincoln Electric System since June of 2007.  The department is charged with providing comprehensive and customized customer experience for the city of Lincoln’s industrial, commercial business and residential customers. His team is also responsible for administering the utility’s energy efficiency, demand response, customer-owned renewables and emerging technology programs.

Marc previously spent 14 years in the alumni relations profession, serving for two-and-half years as Executive Director of the Colorado State University Alumni Association and as Associate Executive Director of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association for 11 years.

An Omaha native, Marc holds Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education Administration degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He currently serves as a member of the Electric Power Research Institute’s Electric Vehicles Advisory Council, American Public Power Association’s Smart Energy Program Review Committee and as president-elect of the Lincoln Center Kiwanis Club.

Welcome New Rotarian Jan Bretz
Recently, Pat Leach introduced new Rotarian Jan Bretz. Jan Bretz is a retired English, communications, and theatre teacher who continues to provide presentation coaching. She has coached TEDxLincoln speakers and is currently working with speakers for TEDxOmaha. She has also taught creative writing and communications at Nebraska Correctional Center for Woman and is on the board of the Q.U.E.E.N.S Butterfly House in Omaha, a safe house for formerly incarcerated women. She and her husband, Randy are parents of three sons, 15 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She’s an avid reader and yogi. When she moved from Indiana to Lincoln in 1979, her first thought was, “Willa Cather land!”

Jan shared with us that she was inspired to join Rotary after attending the recent District Conference led by District Governor Barb Bartle, which launched its inaugural class of Golden Wheel Awards.

2023 Nebraskan of the Year Celebration a Huge Success
Lincoln Rotary Club 14 recognized Rhonda Seacrest as the 2023 Nebraskan of the Year in April. Rhonda Seacrest grew up in North Platte, NE. The work ethic and culture of a rural, pioneer town helped set her character and focus. Hard work is part of being in Nebraska. There were pioneers that traveled on and there were those who stayed. You do a thing because it needs doing. You see a problem and you solve it. These are among Rhonda’s guiding tenets. Many years ago, Rhonda found a passion for supporting children and youth in our communities, investing in backpack and shelter programs, acknowledging that hungry children find it difficult to grow and learn. In that same vein, she is committed to the arts, “because they build ideas and vision for the future, “while inspiring children and helping them fuel their minds.
