Building an Orphanage in Ukraine – This is a story of an unbelievable number of seemingly incidental connections, all of which when put together have helped provide a home for orphans in central Ukraine. It’s a story of a young man from Moldova, a rather small land-locked country in Eastern Europe who ended up in Nebraska, a somewhat larger land-locked state. It’s also a story of that young man meeting his wife, an immigrant from Ukraine when they were students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The story has an interesting connection to a dedicated group of people who answered the call to build an orphanage for children who have lost parents in the war with Russia. And, the story pulled in a reporter for Nebraska television stations, a Nebraska State Senator, a Journalism Professor, a Lincoln businessman, friends from a Lincoln church who ended up in Poland greeting Ukrainians fleeing the war . . . Oh, and there’s a Rotary connection that you’ll have to wait to hear during the presentation. Don’t miss this fascinating story of an orphanage in Ukraine that will open in the near future as told by (Ewon) Ivan Gusanu (the young man from Moldova) and John Grinvalds, a reporter for KETV.
If you were at President Randy Hawthorne's inaugural meeting, you heard that he's inviting each member of the club to the President's Table. These have been assigned randomly. Here are the upcoming dates:
It's been a long-standing tradition for Rotary 14 to host a picnic for collegiate students in our community. This year’s picnic will take place Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Holmes Lake.
Here you’ll find a list of items we hope to have donated to help make the event a success. Additionally, we’re looking for volunteers to assist with setup or clean up. Or, if you have a spare gift card lying around that you'd like to donate, we’ll take that, too! Every little bit helps.
Our greatest needs include:
Cases of Water
Use of a Cooler with Ice
Desserts (non-meltable)
Give away prizes for students (Lincoln swag, gift cards, university clothing, gift baskets etc.)
Food (Vegetarian and vegan options)
Help with setup from 2:00-2:45 p.m.
Help with cleanup from 5-6 p.m.
This year we're providing three options to help make it easier to donate:
Deliver items to a Rotary meeting (on or before September 2rd)
Deliver to Holmes Lake on the day of the picnic
Request a pick up (We will come to you and get the donation. You’ll be contacted after submitting).
This is an event that has welcomed many international students and many look forward to.
It is time to register for Rotary 14's Business Networking Day on September 9, 2025, 12pm -1pm. This will take place in lieu of our regular Tuesday Meeting. We have eight businesses who have committed to hosting Rotarians:
The Rotary 14 Foundation was formed in 1997 with one purpose in mind - its mission to support the objectives of the Lincoln Rotary #14 Club. Over the past 28 years, the Foundation has grown to approximately $3.5 million. These monies support the charitable work of Club #14 in our community, region and the world.
As the needs our Club wants to address continue to grow, the Foundation must also continue to grow! This is an invitation to join Jim Mastera, Jennifer Williams and other Foundation officers to learn more about how the Foundation operates and how you can find a way to join your fellow club members in providing support in a way that works for you.
Refreshments and snacks will be provided at each session. Please sign up to attend one today!
September 15, 5:30 - 6:30 pm at Jim Mastera's
September 21, 4:00 - 5:00 pm at Jennifer Williams'
