Message from Catherine D. Lang

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Lincoln. Club #14 is an outstanding club; not only are we the largest club in District 5650, but we continually exemplify Rotary International’s motto of “Service Above Self”. As you examine the information in our membership directory, you will find a wide variety of club projects and activities that serve our club, community, vocations and the international community.

This year Rotary International President Dong Kurn Lee (D. K. Lee) urges all Rotarians to use their resources to help curb child mortality. In 2008-2009, D. K. Lee asks us to Make Dreams Real for the world’s children. Our efforts this year will focus on projects that improve the literacy, health, nutrition and water quality for children under 5 years of age. The focus of our 20th Annual Community Service Auction embraces these goals by our donations to the Lincoln Literacy Council, Boys & Girls Clubs of Lincoln/Lancaster County, and the Rotary International PolioPlus Challenge Grant.

The efforts of our club members meet the goal of Make Dreams Real. Our service at the Gathering Place and with TeamMates reaches out to members of our community in need. Our club members touch the lives of our neighbors through meaningful service. Even our fellowship events, such as the Dictionary Project or Boo at the Zoo, provide an opportunity to reach out and help the children of our community. Our international efforts, through collaboration with our Twin Club, the Rotary Club of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, or through the District 5650 project in Zambia, bring our service to the wider world community.

Membership in Rotary gives back to each of us in so many ways. Our fellowship benefits us personally and professionally. Our weekly programs educate, inspire and entertain us. Membership in Rotary also asks us to be an active participant with our time and our treasure. It is through the collective efforts of our members and our donations that make the wheel of Rotary continue to turn for the benefit of all. Please be an active member of our club by sharing your leadership, your energy, and your treasure.

I am so very honored to serve with the Board of Directors and Chairs of our committees to continue the outstanding record of Service Above Self of Club #14. May you serve our club, our community and our world with pride through Rotary.

Sincerely,

Catherine D. Lang
2008-2009 President
