Rotary selects its members very carefully through a prescribed procedure. New members may be proposed only by members of the club. Following are the qualifications and the procedure:

1) Select a person you would like to propose as a member of Lincoln Rotary Club #14 whom you believe qualifies for membership. Do not notify the person that they are being considered for membership. According to the bylaws of Rotary International:

A club shall be composed of active members who are adult persons of good character and good business and professional reputation,

(i) engaged as a proprietor, partner, corporate officer, or manager of any worthy and recognized business or profession; or

(ii) hold an important position in any worthy and recognized business or profession or any branch or agency thereof and have executive capacity with discretionary authority; or

(iii) having retired from any position listed in sub-section (i) or (ii) of this subsection

and

having their places of business or residence located in the locality of the club or the surrounding area. An active member moving from the locality of the club or the surrounding area may retain membership in the club where the member's board grants such permission and said active member continues to stay active in the same classification. If a member retires. or a member with three or more years of service changes residence or place of business so that the member no longer meets the foregoing locality requirements, the club may continue the member's membership without change of classification.

Each club shall have a well-balanced membership in which no one business or profession predominates. The club shall not elect a person to active membership from a classification if the club already has five or more members from that classification, unless the club has more than 50 members, in which case, the club may elect a person to active membership in a classification so long as it will not result in the classification making up more than 10% of the club's active membership. Members who are retired shall not be included in the total number of members from a classification. If a member changes classification, the club may continue the member's membership under the new classification notwithstanding these limitations.

2) From your own knowledge, complete the Preliminary Nomination Form available from the Executive Director (Mary Buckley) or the website and return it to the Executive Director. The Membership Review & Classification Committee verifies the prospect's character, business and professional standing, and general eligibility.

3) After you've received a positive recommendation from the committee, bring the prospective member to a club meeting as a guest. This permits the prospect to react to Rotary and decide if they are interested in joining

4) Complete the Membership Proposal and Application Form available from the Executive Director (Mary Buckley) or the website and return it to the Executive Director.

5) The Executive Director presents the proposal form to the Membership Review & Classification Committee for their approval. The committee again verifies the prospect's character, business and professional standing, and general eligibility based on any additional information and assigns an appropriate classification.

6) The Executive Director, after receiving approval from the Membership Review & Classification Committee, presents the proposal to the Board of Directors for approval.

7) After approval by the Board of Directors, a letter from the President is sent to the prospective member indicating that their membership has been approved by the committee and the board and will be presented to the club membership for final approval upon payment of dues.

8) Upon payment of dues, the prospective member's name, name of business, and proposed classification will be given first and second readings at two different club meetings. Any comments received from the membership are processed as provided for in the club bylaws.

9) After the second reading, the club membership votes on the proposed application.

10) Upon approval by the membership, the proposer arranges with the president and the applicant a time for the applicant to be accepted into membership of the club at a regular meeting of the club.

There are two kinds of membership in Rotary: Active and Honorary. Honorary guidelines appear in the Membership Directory
Every member of Rotary Club #14 was invited into membership by another Rotarian. Every member should do the same for someone else.
