The Rotary International Foundation Month
Lori Raphael on 11/04/2014
Good afternoon, Rotarians. November is "Rotary International Foundation Month", and at each meeting in November we will be bringing you inspiring news about the work of our International Foundation.
At first glance, it would seem that when we make financial gifts to a Rotary foundation, our gifts go to one place to be transformed into projects that change lives. But, did you know that our club members have the opportunity to support the work of two different foundations related to Rotary- our local Rotary Club 14 Foundation and the Rotary International Foundation? We need both, because these two foundations have different objectives.
Both our Rotary Club 14 Foundation and the Rotary International Foundation do a world of good. Our local Rotary Club 14 foundation funds a number of worthy local organizations and projects. Yet, today I urge you to think about the other foundation we support...the Rotary International Foundation.
The Rotary International Foundation taps into a global network of Rotarians who invest their efforts and expertise into Rotary's international priorities such as eradicating polio and promoting peace. Rotary International Foundation grants empower Rotarians to approach challenges like poverty, illiteracy, and malnutrition with sustainable solutions that leave a lasting impact on our planet.
The collective leadership and expertise of Rotary's 1.2 million members helps us tackle some of the world's biggest challenges, locally and globally. We are united by common values and vision for the future as we sharpen our focus with targeted specific causes that will reach the communities on our planet that are most in need.
Internationally, Rotary, along with other partners has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since the first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. We are close to eradicating polio, and through your support of the Rotary International Foundation your gift can make this disease a part of history and protect children against polio forever.
The Rotary International Foundation funds academic training, study and practice through the Rotary Peace Centers program. This program develops leaders who are catalysts for peace and conflict resolution in their communities and around the globe. Graduates of the program are helping refugees in Sudan, creating jobs for disadvantaged women in India, and supporting reconstruction in devastated regions of the world.
Our gifts to the Rotary International Foundation go a long way, quite literally, influencing the entire world for good. I feel proud to be a part of this club and to join many other Rotarians throughout our world whose contributions make a real difference. The goal is that every Rotarian, every year will support the Rotary International Foundation at the sustaining level, or at any level. If you have made a contribution or a pledge in 2014, thank you so very much. If, however, it has slipped your mind, or you were unaware of the importance of each member's support, there are sheets on your tables that will enable you to make a donation or pledge today. Our committee will be calling members tomorrow night to ask for your support, and though we would love to talk to you, your donation or pledge today will lighten our calling list and do a world of good. Thank you!
